My car is going to die soon so I’m on the hunt for a new one. I definitely want a convertible, but the soft top issue bothers me. I don’t like how it’s easy to cut through them and if something heavy lands on the top, forget it…you’re done. So I’m mainly looking for one with a retractable hard top. I really like the Pontiac Solistice but it’s a bit more expensive than what I’m going for. I really like the Mazda Miata but it’s only a two seater…I’m wondering if it’s a bad idea to get a two seater? Not just for the fact that you can only have one other person in your car, but because of safety issues.
Any tips or other cars you can recommend me? I’m looking for the 25,000 and under range. I know that’s hard with convertibles but I just want to see what else is out there before I make any final decisions. Thanks!!
hey here is a list of the consumer reported "best hardtop convertibles" or at least the top 10… personally I would go for the VW EOS.. it is about 27k but im sure you could get them down on it
I have a mitsubishi eclipse spyder, I love the car BUT the issues all pretty much are with the soft top, they are notorious for leaks and mine is BRUTAL….but such a pretty car

I don’t believe there are any convertibles that fit all your requirements. The Pontiac G6 convertible comes close, and is one you may want to consider. While it is a little more expensive than what you’re hoping to spend, it is one of the more affordable hardtops out there. Also has seating for four.
There are plenty of convertibles to choose from, so whatever you do, be sure to test drive a good variety to see what you need, what you want, and what you can do without. Good luck.

I don’t believe there are any hardtop convertibles for under $25k. You can’t even buy a fully loaded Civic for under $25k now, isn’t that sad? Even in soft top convertibles, you are asking for a lot for under $25k. Personally, I’d feel better in a hardtop if a convertible is a must have. I hated my soft top. They wear too quickly and have to be replaced every few years which is very costly. They are far too easy to cut open by theft. And they offer no safety in a crash. If you carry anything or anyone around, a 2 seater is going to get old really quickly. But if I had $25k to blow on a convertible, I’d probably go with the Saturn Sky. That thing is so cool!
