Like I say, it is …
Like I say, it is good to see some of the old ways coming through and I respect them for keeping it alive, but they aren’t properly following the original ideas (but admitedly they are changing to modern times which is good). Saying the liberal neo-pagans are very similar to the original pagans is like saying the conservative catholic church followers Jesus’ teachings exactly. I realise I didn’t make myself clear enough in the last statement to say I respect the fact they are still pagans.

    There is no such …
There is no such thing as proper old Paganism. Paganism encompasses many paths and if you don’t understand that then you have no idea what you’re talking about. As for the Hippie peace loving lot that congregate at Stonehenge on the winter solstice more power to them and furthermore who are you to say that these people should not compare themselves to ancient pagans or anyone else for that matter?

  3. EmperorHarold says:

    I like proper old …
I like proper old paganism, but I bet most of these are the peace loving hippy types who have selected the history that best suits their beliefs. There is nothing wrong with being a hippy type, pagan, but they should never compare themselves to their ancestors religions, old pagans lived off the land not by choice, but because you would die if you didn’t. Still good to see al these people watching the sun rise.

Did you hear about the pagans this year? Turned up on the wrong bloody day, they did. They stayed and had some fun anyway. It’s quite a shame really.

yeah I live in the …
yeah I live in the south of Ireland and I think if you walked across the whole of America you would see less historic monuments like this as you would walking for a day through the countryside of Ireland or England.

So many ringforts, dolmens, standing stones just lying untoushed in the feilds. Im grateful to have grown up in such a beautifully historic country :)

    I agree with you …
I agree with you that it would be difficult to reach most Americans with a history this old. I appreciate you taking the time to reply, maybe one day I will. There is nothing in America that is this arcane.

    Thanks again.

    I always have a …
I always have a hard time explaining our European heritage to those of you in the USA. But I see you’re into history, so I’ll give it a go – we still feel that we’re in touch with our ancestors from 5000 years ago who built Stonehenge and we admire their creativity, regardless of labels. The British Isles and Ireland are especially fortunate in having some of the best solar aligned neolithic monuments in the world. Please come and visit one day.

    Were those Pagans …
Were those Pagans or 1960′s hippies?

  18. BoyintheMachine says:

    The word solstice …
The word solstice comes from the latin for ‘stand still’. Twice a year, at the Summer & Winter Solstices, the sun seems to ‘stop or stand still’ with regards to it’s progression. It’s hard to explain in a youtube comment, but the sun slowly moves across the horizen at sunrise/sunset. Well at the Solstices, the movment stops and then goes the other way. The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year. The Summer Solstice is longest day of the year. The sun is ‘reborn’ at the Winter Solstice.

    emoXxXxjess: It’s …
emoXxXxjess: It’s not dumb. Most people know the solstices as the first day of summer(around June 21) and the first day of winter(around December 21). It means, for summer solstice, the day of the year where the day is longer than the night.(where darkness will begin to conquer the light) For winter solstice, the day of the year where night is longer than the day.(where light will begin to conquer the darkness) These are celebrated in special ways by most Pagans. I hope I was helpful :)
